Something i noticed about the early 'conversion manuals', like those 2 volumes and then the one compilation with schematic ( next to useless
when on one page sometimes ) and photos ( not very good either, or always correctly captioned ) is that in this early time, info was not always
available, and there was speculation to fill in the blanks. Like, look at the equipment directory listed in the back of the orange volume. Lots of
plain wrong info there.
The Command Sets: if you wanted mobile on 14, 21, or 28 Mcs., you had to convert them, right?
The photo i really like is the Command mobile with the rec and trans nested in one double rack. However knowing how uncommon racks are
now, i would not hacksaw a receiver rack or remove the connector from the transmitter rack. Maybe one will turn up that already has that
done sometime in the past.
Somewhere in the past i talked to someone who had actually run an ARC-2 CW portable - mobile. Yes, he said, he did have to tune off frequency
when the other guy went to transmit. I was impressed.
BTW, that set: it finally came to me why that strange circuit config: they wanted maximum AGC control. Thus all the AVC controlled RF stages.
