A story about the BC-? ( memory fails me ) FM pushbutton receiver, the tank receiver.
Around 1995 i had one, maybe given to me or part of something else i bought. It had been hacked somehow,
don't recall exactly how, now. I thought i would pull something off it, at least the tubes, and junk the rest.
Anyway i set it on the ground among the trees on my brother's property, where i was living at the time. So
i forgot about it over one winter. Winters out here are not so cold but are very damp. Electronics anything
left outside is ruined in about one or two weeks. So anyway spring came around, i finally decided i should do
something with this junk hulk. But before pulling the tubes, i thought, well why not try it out? Worst thing is
it would smoke out and blow a fuse. So i dragged it in; it must have dried out because i never would have
plugged it in, damp. When i powered it up and twiddled the dial, i heard some JA ham calling CQ on 10 meters.
The tuning was VERY broad, as you could expect. I was amazed at the equipment's robustness, i mean,
surviving outdoors a Northwest monsoon season. MFP works.
