[ARC5] [Milsurplus] Very Interesting Troubleshooting Tool

He mentioned that the probe portion could be made to work with existing signal tracers like our Heathkits, etc., but we'd have to figure out how to power the board differently than he did.  Wonder if anyone is making this as a kit??

Many thanks for the link, Dave!
I need to build one of these. Unhitching every capacitor to test them is such a time sink on rigs like these. I have an unmolested HQ-120 that I want to restore and this tool would be perfect for that project.

  Hi:

Mr Carlson's Lab also has a separate video on his "Super Probe" that's over an hour long.

This video is very interesting indeed. A fellow built of high sensitivity, High amplification RF and audio probe. Put a little B plus on your B+ bus, go around capacitors and resistors and this thing is sensitive enough to pick up the miniature lightning inside a leaky cap even when it's too small to be heard in your speaker  Pretty cool. I intend to build one, although I probably will try to use IC amplifiers after a Hi-Z fet front end, rather than discrete comonents but we'll see. Has a schematic in the video and more information under the video.  I'd like to try it with B+ on the bus but the filaments turned off. You should still get the lightning.
