[ARC5] [Milsurplus] GP with ARB?

Frankly, for me, finding all of the interior equipment is the best part. The
PBY I am helping with now is the latest project to try and complete the
puzzle. The early ASE radar being the most challenging.

This PBY has three RU sets and one GF with all of the associated
accessories. One RU/GF for the pilots and the other two RU's for the
Radioman. Check out the number of coil sets! We have one NOS RU set but now
need two others if you all might know where one or two might be. It is a
very worthwhile project.

Thanks,

Taigh

Hey Tim,

No, that PV-2 Harpoon is stripped out inside. Our first one we did has just
about all of its WWII radio and radar gear back in place. The ARC-5, ARB's
and ART-13 are operational. The APS-3 radar should work once we build the
harnesses for it. Lots of connectors and conduit to acquire unless anyone
knows where we can find them.

Photos of the before and after work can be seen at the link below. This was
an all-volunteer project.

GO-9 is in the lower left corner of the attached photo and an ARB on the
right side of the radio operators shelf. The installation in this PBY had
two ARB's. One for the pilot as well which was mounted further forward and
out of the picture. They called it the Intra Squadron set. The RU is still
present at the radio station as well.

In doing the PBY research for this project it has been quite interesting to
see all of the changes over time in comm and radar gear.

Wasn't the ARB used with the GO-9 in acft like the PBY?

I recall reading Mike Hanz commenting some years back that the ARB was
intended as a drop-in replacement for the RU.

So wouldn't be too much of a fantasy to fabricate a ARB + GF, altho in real
life, I don't think anyone ever saw such.

Same form factor, and so on.

That reminds me, some acquaintance of Geoff's bought something like a "State
of Alaska" "portable set" with an ARB

and ( I think ) TA-12 in one wooden trunk.
