Something suspect about the $86 shipping charge to west coast. This may be the
retail shipping charge, but Ebay sellers get a discount from the retail, walk-in rate.
Hamfest sell price should be around $25 tops. In other words, barely worth the work of
taking it to the hamfest, when you consider real-world prices of foods, gas, clothes
and so on. But the hobby economy is only loosely related to the real world economy.
Last week I took a couple musical instruments to a music store in Corvallis, Oregon to
commission sell. The gentleman there seemed to be telling me that in times of
uncertainty, people stick with the tried and true, are less adventurous with their purchases.
I assume he meant for example, the good old 6-string gitbox will still sell steadily, while
for example, the bouzouki and odd mandolin variants, not so much. The foregoing paragraph
has minimal connection to the BC-221 discussion, but it just has me wondering about the
state of the overall markets right now.
