One could say the same thing about travel by bicycle, sailboat, or communicating by WW2 radio.
Why even do it, when there's modern means for doing these things?
The LM or BC-221 I wouldn't use for an alignment, too much pure work. However, for a certain
kind of person, and for some uses, they are fun to use. Unfortunately, frequency meter users are
a smaller subset of people interested in classic radios, so there exists an oversupply now.
I have seen some photos of frequency meters converted to regenerative receivers. Ditto for old
signal generators. My feeling is, why spend time making garbage, something that looks like refried
hell and that no one else will ever value? If you want to make a regen receiver, for example, use the
parts from the old set by all means, but at least make it look like some work of craftspersonship.
