[ARC5] Using the BC-221/LM calibration book software.

So far I have tried both the BC-221.EXE and the LM4.EXE sofware, and both work fine under
DOSbox.

The first thing you must do is to make a directory somewhere on your computer in which to
put all the files.

I made a directory on my desktop labeled LM_BC-221_FILES, then fired up DOSbox.

That usually begins with a memory disk labled Z:

Then I issued the command, mount c c:\users\ken\desktop\lm_bc-221_files.

Case does not appear to matter.

Then typed C: enter

Then dir enter

I then went to the directory which contains the file bc221.exe

I did not edit the included BC221.DAT file, since I only wanted to see if the program would
work. I then renamed the .PRN file that was already there, bc221.prn to bc221.old, and ran
the program by issuing the command "bc221" ( without the quotes). Within a few seconds, it
spit out the message "Program terminated"

I then found a new bc221.prn file.

I then tried to run the LM4.EXE file. It terminated with the notification that it couldn't find the
LMCALIB.DAT file, which I expected.

So, from my investigation, the programs work just fine under DOSbox.

If anyone has any questions, you may most certainly email me with any.

Any of the various "README" files contain the following notice, which I thought very
interesting.

"The calibration book you generate will not be as accurate as an
original book. However, the maximum error in the HF range should be
less the 0.5 kc at the ends of the range. The maximum error in the LF
range should be less than 50 cycles at the ends of the range. This
error is due to a small nonlinearity in the capacitor manufacture."

As soon as I have "resurrected" my two LMs, I'll make the necessary data files, and see what
result I get.
