[ARC5] BC-375: "Once more unto the breach, dear friends!"

Yes, here I go again, "tilting at the windmill"
of finding a non-destructive alternative to
$1400 worth of tubes, in hopes that some
other irrepressible soul will lift a BC-375
off the basement floor, out of the dark and
endless "I'll get around to it" void,
and "breath into it's wires and meters
the breath of life."

Found this "hanger queen-" dirty, tubeless
and forlorn, saved it from the "after hamfest"
scrap heap and brought it home for "parts."
Most of the covers went to someone's
project (don't remember which one).
Electrically, it is complete, though rough.
It will make a good "test bed" for
experimentation without messing-about with
my completed SCR-287 station.

First thing to do was to get it working
"original."  Lots of lubing, De-Ox-it and
elbow grease and it's working, making
RF out on 3890 KC.
With just 400V regulated For B+,
it's making 9W of carrier, 15W Peak
with audio.  Now it's ready
to be "fiddled and twiddled."

Anyone here heard of the Svetlana SV572-160 triode?
Becoming a tube of interest to the Audio cultists.
They're a "572 without the plate cap" they say.
Has anyone played with these at RF?
If one shops-around, one can get a quad of them
for a couple of hundred bucks.

Every couple of years I seem to "get the bug"
to work on this project again, even though it's
unlikely even one other person will adopt it.
It reminds me of lines from my favourite Kipling
poem, edited for a 21st-Century reader:

   "As it will be in the future,
    so it was at the birth of Man.

    There are only four things certain
    since social progress began:

    that a dog returns to his vomit,
    that a pig returns to her mire,

    and a burnt fool's bandaged finger
    goes wobbling back to the fire..."

Gonna go do some more "wobbling."
