[ARC5] USN HF and VHF Capabilities

The USAAF apparently used the SCR-522 in the Pacific because it was used
extensively in the European theater and the supply chain was well
established (and the Navy options had cooties or somethin' - not
invented here comes to mind). If you'll look at the radio operator's
VHF panel on the Enola Gay, you will see the VHF receiver mentioned on
this panel below. Before the weapon drops in August they had changed it
out for the AN/ARC-3. So, the USAAF went directly from the SCR-522 in
the Pacific to the AN/ARC-3, though it was primarily the big bomb
haulers that received them in 1945.
Not sure about Navy use of the 522. Never heard of that, but it could
easily be true.
