[ARC5] APX-6 and Surplus

It was the APX-6 that got me started in amateur radio.  A book in the local library contained a reprint of the P-51 Mustang pilot's manual.  I decided right then that I could never own a P-51 ( back then they were selling in flying condition with a spare engine for about $18K) but I could own one of the radios, like the Detrola LF receiver.  I asked a physics professor in college as to where you could buy that stuff.  he recommended fair Radio.  The Fair Radio catalog showed a vast selection of surplus electronics, including the APX-6, and also listed conversion articles for it in issues of QST.  I asked a friend what QST was.  And there you go...
