I have 2 of the Millen transistor dipmeters. I like the Millen quality, real old-world mechanics,
BUT....i shouldn't have to do all that work just to change, or even just check the battery. I have
thought of an aftermarket mod to move the battery into a small holder outside the case.
Something else I don't particularly like. The optional LF coils, you have to use a look-up chart
to relate the 0 - 100 scale to actual freq.
The last Heathkit dipmeter, the HD-1250, I have thought about buying one, if I find one at a
hamfest, just because I admire the sophistication of its circuit.
I also have a Radio Specialty Co., Portland Oregon, submini vac tube dipper. One tube osc and
one as RF diode. Has some accessory box for reckoning L and C values. Kind of curio. This one
might have to go.
I also have a small transistor dipper, brand name I don't remember right now, uses one Ge
transistor. It needs restoration. I found a perfect match 100 uA meter but I've lost interest
in finishing it. Uses a 13.5 volt batt. I had reckoned to replace this with 2x 9 volt batts and a
voltage regulator chip to take it down to 13.5 volt. Has such a small frequency scale that I
don't think it would be real useful.
If anyone needs, I "may" have some extra coils for the Heath HD-1 or the Lafayette dippers.
