There is a reason why the Navy had Hallicrafters produce the EP-298 to
begin with.  I doubt that any conversion was limited to a specific
shipyard. The era (1950) with Korea and the beginning of the Cold War, the
buy-back of some of the surplus, etc. all make for an interesting time in
history.
