Another marine radio has been returned to the airwaves, thanks to the
same method. I've done two of the Hudson American marine
radiotelephones now, because they met my primary criteria: "they
looked cool". The company clearly invested in some industrial design
services to make the styling of their products appealing to boat owners,
even for the low-end two-channel "Privateer" that I used on the AM net
today. I've added pics of the radio after modification:

Since I only wanted the 75 meter AM band, I used inexpensive N4ESS
crystals for transmit, and the Epson oscillators in my Four Channel
board for the receive side. Simply connecting the output of the board
to the oscillator grid pin of the 7A8 converter tube via a .001 uf
capacitor is all that was needed, but I also rewired the old crystal
switch to provide a ground to the board for channel selection. With
it's three-tube transmitter (including modulator) makiing 6 watts out
and four tube superhet receiver, the Privateer is as sweet a little
receiver-transmitter as you'll find!
