FWIW all of the aviation VHF / UHF radios are AM, not FM, to avoid FM
problems at aircraft speeds (e.g., "picketing"). There's lots of room on
two meters for AM these days as there is so little ham operation, at least
out here in Northern California. A few years ago, Alex Seddio and Tim
Sammons and I operated a small and short AM 2m circuit from Mt. Diablo with
