The last posted photo of the crusty pair reminds me of a photo I saw in QST, must have been around 1990.
It was a beach on some Pacific island, and the photo showed a Japanese aircraft radio ( I think, Type 96-2 ? ),
a large one like off some Kawanishi flying boat. But the radio was VERY fuzzy, looked like coral. I thought, 
some conservation process should be started, if the idea is to display it on some island museum. Of course,
conservation would be worse on the bottom still. What really piqued my interest is I had the type receiver
section, and dearly hoped to find the transmitter section. Well, I did, but it took about 30 years.
