I have an HP-8654A signal generator that covers 10MHZ - 550MHZ. I paid $10 for it on ebay and was able to arrange for a local pick-up. It works very well, and has both AM and FM modulation built in, but the power output meter gets a bit erratic. Also, you really need a digital frequency counter to use with it since the "slide rule" tuning can't be read with much accuracy; my Tek 2236 scope does well for that up to about 100 MHZ
I also have a URM-25F. I bought it at a hamfest for $5. It looked very scruffy but put out a nice clean stable signal - that could not be adjusted. Turned out that it was simply a matter of the tuning shaft getting loose from the tuning cap. Superglue fixed that, and aside from needing a small bit of recalibation on a couple of the bands, I am sure it'll do good job.
I have two URM-127 audio signal generators and they work fine.
I have an HP-606A. It blew out the power supply and one of the panel meters a while back, and that required quite a bit of rebuilding. I guess it works now but I'm a bit scared to turn it on.
