The local WWII museum has a GP-7 type that was donated (more like abandoned) that's missing the covers. Wonder if there's any chance of ever finding some?

FWIW, this kinda looks like an APU in the passengers seat.

which does not preclude that batteries or a SMALL APU wasn't used. Any batteries may have
been removed from the Jeep,.perhaps for charging, when the photo was taken.
There is also no trailer or any towed rig shown in the photo either.
In addition, there most certainly IS room in the back of a Jeep for radios mounted on a board
over the seats as shown, plus batteries under that board, or a small APU, or batteries, or the
APU, mounted in the front where the passenger's seat was.
We simply don't have enough information yet to decide one way or another.
About the only thing we can be certain of at this point is that the radios themselves were not
modified in any way.
I would tend to think that an APU was not used, at least while using the radio gear, since all
operations were by AM 'phone, and the noise from an APU would have been terribly
distracting at the very least, and possibly maklng communications impossible.
At this point, my vote is for batteries, and those being charged somewhere else.
