[ARC5] BC-375 question

Every tuning unit for a BC-375-* has a tuning chart calibrated for a specific BC-375-* transmitter. TUs have the same serial number as the associated transmitter.
The surest way to permanently separate a TU calibrated for a specific transmitter from that transmitter would be to remove it from its designated storage on the aircraft. It is difficult to imagine the reason that one would want to.

If the B-17 was being delivered overseas to it’s base of operations, then yes, the full set of tuners would certainly travel with it. Otherwise, the full set isn’t needed.

FWIW I recently saw a WW-II era photo of a radio "compartment" in maybe a B-17. It had a full complement of the tuning units near the transmitter. Maybe some flexibility re frequencies justified the weight.

According to my now-passed on Uncle, a B-24 radio operator in the Pacific theater, they carried, or at least had the capability, of carrying the normal complete set. That said, he did note that he only maintained those that were regularly used. BTW, his B-24 was a milestone production number, named Hank and Hal, for Henry Ford and Hap Arnold. Fortunately, I was able to have him see my setup before his demise.

The planes with BC-375, did they carry all the set of TU-* or just the ones necessary for the mission ?
