I think they used the 12 volt version of the BC-348 which is a BC-224.

Interesting. Does this mean the R-849 ( BC-348 with squelch box for
FAC Jeep ) dates no earlier than 1952 ?

 The first US 24 volt Jeep put into standard production was the M-38.
Production started in 1952. They would not have been available during
WW2 to US Armed forces in the Pacific or anywhere else.
