Robert,
Well, maybe not stupid, but why would you want to? Appropriate power
supplies are pretty easy to find or gin up in this day and age.
I think most of us are in favor of making minimal changes to the radio.
It was different when we were kids. There is a article in Vol 1 of the
Surplus Conversion Manual making a 24-volt BC-946 (BCB RX) into a 6-volt
car radio. Parallel heaters, 6-volt tubes, plus a vibrator power supply
for B+.
Just run the heaters from a 24-volt doorbell transformer and relax.
