I hope so, it will make me feel better after the "one that got away"
story...

Some years ago there was an auction here in town, the property of a guy
who was very knowledgeable about electronics but never was a ham.  He
got many of the magazines and sent away for catalogs and data sheets
from many different companies, and it was his habit to slit open the
envelope with a letter opener, read what was inside, then put it back in
the envelope.    I ended up buying a lot of miscellaneous paper and even
found some he missed, which is why I have things like Allied flyers that
were never opened.   I got my share of goodies that day.

But what I did not get was the 211 tubes.  This fellow was in the
business of renting PA systems back before it was common for every venue
to have their own, and maybe he had an amp that used them, or maybe he
had them just because they were cheap at one time, but there was a small
suitcase of  211 tubes - had to be 10 or more.   There were also a
couple of loose ones which the auctioneer sold first for $10 or so.
Right after he did so, one of the big buyers came rushing up and acted
all offended that they'd been sold in his absence.    I didn't know for
sure what they were worth but I figured if that guy wanted them so bad
he was going to have to pay for them, so I bid the case full up to over
$300 and he showed no signs of stopping so I let them go. I was relieved
at the time because I didn't have a use for them and wasn't even sure
what they were used int, plus that was probably the going rate in 1995
or whenever it was.   Now of course it would be a bargain.

As the 211 prices have gone sky high I've thought what a small fortune I
could have had if he's only spend another couple of minutes in the
porta-potty!
