The WWII "XXI BOMBER COMMAND COMBAT CREW MANUAL" used by the B-29 crews in the Pacific says that radio compass bearings can work out to 450-500 miles but in terms of reliable use it is more like 150 miles.
They had a 50,000 watt station on Saipan that was used for homing.
VHF DF steers, where the aircraft called the base for a bearing, worked out to about 100 miles.
HF steers where the radio operator in bombers called the base for a bearing using the liaison set were reliable out to 500 miles and often greater distances.
