I have told this story before, but it is BC-611 related, and perhaps some here haven't heard it.
This was at the PSARA annual swapmeet, Seattle, must have been around 1980. I met a
gentleman there who was bought a No.19 tank set after I foolishly turned it down. I think the
tank set was $35 and I declined because at the time, I was in a mistaken fear snit about possible
radium front panel paint. Now I don't think any No.19 set ever had radium paint. Right, wrong?
Anyway, this fellow, Lawrence....i still have his name written down somewhere, was a child in
the Nederlands right after WWII. He showed me a BC-611 he found discarded in a ditch there,
useless because of the damned broken antenna. He had in recent years replaced the antenna.
The 611 had a one - turn brown spiral stripe from bottom to top, about 3 inches wide, as some
sort of camouflage - how useless, but someone was motivated. Lawrence told me he also found
some kind of German Panzerfaust antitank rocket, and he'd fired it off. I thought, good thing none
of his friends was standing behind him, or they'd have been toasted. I still have Lawrence's name
around here somewhere; for years I thought of looking him up and making an offer on the 611,
but I suppose that opportunity has probably already expired by now. -Hue Miller
