[ARC5] ARC-2 on Ebay

I know the approach of regenerative IF and external Q5er but I do not care for either of those. 
My use would be more for tuning around seeking, rather than parking on the net freq. 
The first I found just not working very well, and the second, I don't care for the idea of an outboard.
My question stands: how much can we lower the coupling caps in the ARC-2A ?  
Many years ago, I had an ARR-15, and I did something about the coupling caps, and it squealed. I 
don't recall now exactly what I did, but I was not able to continue the project, and I traded the 
receiver off.
