Thanks for the clarification, and your point is well-taken.
It's no wonder so many of us, in our youth, would wear-out
the latest Fair Radio catalogue, day-dreaming and calculating
how many lawns we'd have to mow to get the scratch for
a BC-454. And a 348? "For-getta-bout-it." $15 or $20 was a
tall hill for a 14-year-old to climb in 1965.
Amateur Radio always has been largely a "rich man's hobby."
Mil-radios connected us with our history, which we were taught
was valuable and honourable, not the shameful lies excreted today-
and even though not really "cheap" by the standards of a 1960s
teenager, they were possible for us
when that NC-183 or HRO were not.
