A story about the reliability of the AN/ARC-2:

One morning several years ago, I checked into
a local AM net with the AN/ARC-2 running
as-designed on the dynamotor.  The only real
changes to the set - I increased the value of the
BFO injection capacitor which greatly improved
both CW and SSB reception and I put a 100pFd
doorknob in the antenna lead to make matching
a 50-ohm antenna easy.   Had to get to work
quickly so headed out the door.

It was a very long work day.  I got back home
and went into the barn 14 hours later.   I had
inexplicably left the set running on dynamotor-
somehow forgot to turn it off.  It ran the whole
time-14 hours straight.  It was still and is still
running just fine.  Gotta tip the hat to Art
for the AN/ARC-2.
