Yep, those are the giveaways. 1- in a hurry  2- your asking price is fine + 3- condition is not a concern.
I'd tell him this is 2020, no one uses checks any more.  You need real, green money in your hand.
BTW, where did you advertise the gear? FB or Craig's ?
