What got me thinking about that possibility is that many years ago I read General Electric's book on their WW2 contributions,
"Men and Volts at War".  ( If  book published in 2020, the title would have to be substantially longer. )  Therein is stated that G.E.
produced the TDE transmitter specifically intended for use in destroyer - escort class ships. Right now that seems, hmmm....,
questionable. Other accounts in the book seem maybe a bit too enthusiastic, gee-whizzy. Or like the old "Popular Communications"
magazine, I recall.
