They don't, and never did, "stand for" anything. Those are the Navy's designation for differing 
series of radios.

I am guessing that they started with RA and ran through at least RZZ. I have seen photos of 
an RAA on, I believe, Nick England's Navy Radio site and www.navy-radio.com
