What part of the world are you in? Sounds like Alaska someplace.
In most cities all fire trucks carry paramedics. In Los
Angeles both city and county roll a fire truck on paramedic calls
and they call an ambulance when they need to transport someone.
The fire trucks can handle all sorts of emergencies. This sounds
like something serious with the hazmat guy. I wonder if a spill
of something. Doesn't sound like it was just someone with the
flu. I have had personal experience with paramedics a couple of
times and consider them the best people around. Maybe you can ask
around and find out what happened. These days firefighters
probably handle fewer fires than anything else.
