The checker at Safeway said, "The customers can't see me smile".
I said, "Yes, but they also can't see if you frown".
I'm sure they are not cheerful with a certain number of creeps or incompetents.
I'm sure I have been one at some point. I salute the store staffs now too, among front-line workers.
Ah so. A kind of oriental reserve, now. Ambiguous veiled expressions, no more handshakes or hugs.
As long as I'm wasting bandwidth here with an OT post, a short story. When I was living in WA state
around 1990 something, Safeway employees got an instruction to amp up their "friendliness" by
some large magnitude. A lot of male customers interpreted that sudden feigned friendliness and
interest as the female checkers "coming on to them". I confess, single at the time, I kind of took
it that way too. Well, it didn't last long: the checkers rebelled about the unintended implications of
the new policy, and Safeway canned it and returned to normal business behavior policy.

> Masks, what masks, we don't need no filthy stinking masks...
I got a nice supply of masks from Amazon and I think I will continue to wear them. Also gloves.
I am getting used to faceless people. Maybe, when this is over, if it ever gets over, we will discover that they have atrophied from lack of use and we don't have faces any more.
What ever will we do with all those mug shot cameras.
Since you are dead I am glad you managed to work up enough ectoplasm to write.
