Dave and others,
While I was at NAS Quonset Point in about 1969, I got at the surplus yard a couple of radios much like the Fada one in the ad. It's possible they are still in storage.
They may have been by another manufacturer - I'd think various companies made similar radios. The tower and other stations would have had a number of them crystalled to all the frequencies in use, including the guard channel. The octal tubes of the 1940's would account for the modest sensitivity mentioned.
If I do unearth them, it would be fun to put one on a local tower frequency.
