I have a working SCR274 setup. The transmitters are much more useful than the receivers on the Ham bands, IMO. The BC348 is rather broad also, and the dial band spread has much to be desired, but at least has the xtal filter,
I do enjoy the "experience" of operating these radios. The whirring of dynamotors, the clacking of relays, etc. The novelty of it is entertaining.
My transmitters will push 50 watts in CW mode. The AM carrier is about half of that, but I can talk up and down the east coast with good reports ( when I can find an AM guy who doesn't talk for 30 minutes at a clip).
There aren't that many on AM and I haven't had the opportunity to have a midwest or beyond QSO yet, so I look forward to having one with this rig.
I have just acquired the last piece of the ARC-5 system- the MT71 rack which was harder to find than the MD-7 !
I understand that the plate modulation works better than the SCR274 screen modulation for various reasons, so I will probably use the ARC-5 system exclusively when it's completed.
Do you intend to make a complete ARC-5 with the modulator and dynos?

Many thanks for posting the links to these transmitter pages! I have a BC348 in the que for restoration and I was kind of bummed about not having a suitable transmitter to pair up with. I know the ART13 goes with it but I didn’t want to take on a project like that. I heard over the last 52 tears of hamming that the ARC5 transmitter was ’not suitable” for the ham bands, so these articles changed my mind. I think an 80m and 40m ARC5 transmitter would be great to put on the air with the BC348! Thanks again. 73, Scott WA9WFA
