[ARC5] Bias cell voltage/s

Could anyone tell me the voltage of bias cells that were used in some late '30 and early '40 radios. 
As a kid I saw them advertised in radio catalogues, specified for use when no current was being drawn from them, such as grid bias. I have several farm radios that these for control grid bias in first audio stage . I need to know their voltage to restore these sets.Thanks in advance,John Allen, W4GQT since 1959
