I certainly was aware of the HF capability as the EWO was responsible for setting it up and monitoring it continuously. Pilots, navs, and gunner did not normally monitor HF.
I was only referring to short range comms.

Buffs did not have VHF, just HF and UHF.

I don't know what bombers they might have been. All our B-52s had "modern" UHF radios. I was EWO on F models in 1965.
Maybe? on prop single engine aircraft.
