[ARC5] Use of a Variac

For those keeping the Tube rectifiers in place:

you could rig up a    1N4007+10K resistor slipped in some plastic tubing 
   + wired to alligator clips and jumper the tube socket pins

Apply through a Variac and bring up so you can get some low voltage 
current on to the cap without bring up the voltage to half staff ?
