[ARC5] Wire ferrules

The remote-control gear for Rice University's transmitters used a lot of ferrules.

They work fine, but I needed to make some modifications, and did not want to change the system.

Check out https://www.ferrulesdirect.com for dimensions, tools and ideas.

It is likely overkill to buy into the ferrule world for a quick fix on a set of headphones, but the info is free.

There are also some good youtube videos on how to install them properly.

I have also used this technique works pretty well. I use single strands from lamp wire.

Beware there are different sizes of lugs, larger ones will not fit into some headphone contacts and smaller ones may not be held by the set screws.

Also, at least for headphones, you may need pin jacks. A pin jack with the end cut off will work as a lug.

I carefully save any of either from old headphone cords. The crimp type can be cleaned by heating and poking out the residue with stiff wire. The crimp ones can be soldered in using the wrie wrapping technique above. I am sure there must be cartons of these things hiding in someone's basement or attic.
