If you can find a ferrule to crimp but it's non-piercing, fold some of the tinsel back over the cord and crimp onto that. I've also tightly wrapped a fine strand from multi-strand wire around the tinsel to hold it & give more contact area for a substitute ferrule.

Craig,
I have been able at times to re-use the old spade type ferrules. But, I have also successfully used the correct diameter hollow copper tubing found at hobby/model railroad shops.  Easy to crimp and solder. Of course, that tinsel wire can be a pain!!!
