[ARC5] GRC-9 BFO

When the GRC-9 was designed, no one was thinking about product detectors.
( BTW, I read somewhere that 1R5s do worse in storage than other tubes....interelectrode shorts or something such....
anyone know about this ? )

The Navy RU receiver uses the BFO at 1/2 signal frequency. ( That makes it nontrivial, I think, to restrict the tuning range
for better bandspread. ) 

 I think I could probably come up with another example if I searched my manuals.
