Yes; it has a vibro-pack so the receiver can be used with just the
mobile 12-volt battery supply. One started the little PE-108 generator
to get the Transmitter high-voltage.
I think one of the members probably got it right; the 12 VDC relay
physically looks just like the original 115VAC relay. Some field tech
went to change the relay and installed the wrong one. Must have been a
common mistake because I've seen it before. Once the 12V relay was in,
when the radio was keyed, the "new" relay buzzed louder than hair
clippers. That's when the radio went on the "look at me one of these
days" shelf and thence, out to surplus. I'd bet coffee and donuts
that's what happened. The 12 VDC and 115 VAC relays look identical
except for the rating printed on the side of the coil.
