Yes, if I fired up my R-11A and used several feet of wire as an antenna, I could pick up the 455 KHZ IF signal of my GE Multiband World Monitor transistorized receiver from several feet away, probably from anywhere in my small apartment.  Too bad the R-11A did not have a BFO.  I spent a lot of time trying to build a 455 KHZ BFO, and finally succeeded, only to find it did very little good given the limited bandspread of the GE receiver.
