There are hundreds of automobiles far older than that B-17 that are rented out for all sorts of occasions, from funerals to weddings.
I drive my 38 Buick Roadmaster 4 dr sedan with dual sidemounts all over the East and up into Canada because I can and it is a great riding car at highway speeds. I certainly wouldnt do it with a Model A or other low end vehicle. Yet others with similar mid to high priced vehicles are afraid to drive more than locally even after paying for a $50K-100K or more restoration. I did all my own restoration work to my own satisfaction and not as a show car/trailer queen.
Jay Leno has some priceless one of a kind vehicles that he drives regularly and enjoys himself.....because he can.
Yet a few here stain their panties at someone making even a simple mod to what was a throw away radio that will never be rare or valuable even if they were used in B-17's.
To each their own and that includes the usual suspects/meatheads.
