Dave, there actually are plenty of people highly interested in chariots of ancient Egypt. I think there was even a travelling museum display
a year or two back. However - the original item is rare enough that no one would think of actually harnessing horses to one for a run-out, 
and the chariot on travelling display was a replica. 
I happen to find war chariots a pretty interesting conveyance. How they fashioned these, especially the axles and bushings, from wood is
something I don't understand. I have a book about Ashurbanipal of Assyria, who defeated a rival king in battle: the rival king's chariot apparently
broke an axle bushing, and he was unable to make his escape. A whole lot of accidents happen around the implements of war.
