[ARC5] [MMRCG] Crummy Grounds

I was never a fan of hammers around electronics either, things can go awry...
A non-mechanical permanent solution is to clean an area of the tube socket retainer as well the adjacent chassis. Then solder the retainer to the the chassis with a high wattage solder gun. Some manufacturers did this as SOP at the time of manufacture.

Don't do this on a ceramic tube socket.
Lesson learned with grief and tears.

Hallicrafters used rivets to attach many tube
sockets and terminal
strips instead of screws, and Hallicrafters guru
K9AXN described a good
tip. Apply a small amount of De-Oxit to the
rivet on the underside of
the chassis, then using a flat screwdriver and
hammer, give it a few
taps. You won't see any movement but the impact
will allow the
De-Oxit to wick into the tiny gaps and do it's
magic. A good approach
for any riveted or otherwise inaccessible
connections.
