[ARC5] Dan Nelson: TV-2 restoration. - NOT

I hate to be a naysayer, but in my opinion, the TV-2 is sort of a marginal
tester, due primarily to the fact that all those meters don't tell you much,
and it is a slow, tedious tester to use. The meters are also somewhat
notorious in their inability to stay in calibration, there is no direct
plate current meter, the units are arbitrary, and it is un necessarily
complex. That being said, it looks cool, and I will admit to having one in
my collection. If one needs a more analytical tester than the TV-7 or 10, I
would suggest looking for a Hickok 539C, Weston CA-1630, Weston 686 type 9,
or any of the excellent British AVO testers (Mks. I through IV, model 160,
or VCM 163). Better yet, just find a nice TV-7 C or D, and have a tester
that will last the rest of your natural life. And will become second nature
to use.

I just became the proud father of a TV-2. Someone painted it black, but the
inside is really pretty. ALL of the meters function, none of them stick,
which is a common problem.

I have NOT opened it up yet but I will be doing that in the future and
replace caps and resistors.

Not a bad purchase for $75

I can answer that question: I called him about servicing my TV-2/U and
TV-2B/U. He told me flatly that he will not service TV-2s of any flavor
since he has no replacement parts for them.

He also mentioned the fact that so many of the meters in the TV-2 are bad
(none of mine are bad, thank heavens) and that there are a large quantity of
resistors on a big board in there, 80% or greater of which are ALWAYS bad.
