[ARC5] Purpose For Scott Receivers

I use a little butane torch and hold the tub by one of the screw hold. Solder will run down to one end, smack on table to free solder.
However, this method can be interesting with the beeswax popping and spitting.

Ken,
It's easy to open them. The lids are soldered, a higher wattage iron(I have a 400 w) will help reduce the heating time. The filler is beeswax, I collected it in a container and poured it back into the bathtub after the 600 VDC mylar caps were soldered in - it prevents strain from the cap suspended by the leads. Not that the radio would be subjected to vibrations like on a ship... Resoldering the lid is also easy.
Good luck with it!

Recently I acquired a nice SLR-F which I have yet to turn on and evaluate for faulty caps, etc.
Once that is done, it'll replace the RCH in the Liberty Ship console.
I like the RCH, it is stable, sounds great - both CW and AM, and has more than adequate
sensitivity, especially on the lower bands. To deal with its very mediocre selectivity, I use a dual
active audio filter for CW, when the band is crowded. It makes all the difference!

Thank you for this info, Meir. I have always liked those RCH/SLR-F receivers which I have
used over the years. I hope to have at least one of mine back in operation this year.
Some of the bathtub caps in the main RCH I have here are bad. I'll do as you have done
and will open them, and replace the caps with modern ones, then will reseal.
