Maybe not as unlikely as we might presume. Back in 68 I had a small station in my housing quarters in Gitmo (KG4DF was my call). Used a Hallicrafters S-120 AC-DC killer radio, because that's all that was locally available. It worked actually surprisingly well. The 12AV6 blew out, and all I could find was a 6AV6, which I put in series with a resistor to make up the difference. At that time I didn't think about the filaments being a series string, but it worked nonetheless. It is a good workaround if you don't have the correct tube.

If that's meant to be a criticism of what I wrote, please look at the R-23 circuit diagram and re-read what I wrote. Where do you get the notion that the resistor is across the 12K8 supply? It's now in series with the 12SK7 heater across the 12V line, making it likely that a 6SK7 was fitted.
