[ARC5] RJ-45 Wire?

I replaced a failing RJ-45 cable with a new one and then took the old one apart.  I thought that small diameter color coded wire would be fine for a low voltage low current project I'm working on.

But I absolutely could not get the wire to accept solder.  I know those connectors are crimped on, but what is the wire made out of that will not take soldering?
