Actually, there's a relay in the Command Set
receiver racks that mutes 

the receiver audio output when the set is in
transmit.  The switch I 

use on the sets prevents the relay from picking,
the receiver audio

stays "on" and that allows netting, via the
receiver BFO, 

the transmitter and receiver freqs (assuming the
BFO is properly aligned).

Doesn't really involve the sidetone circuits,
which IIRC I left open-circuit

to avoid feedback.
