For the BC-348-N that worked and had the internal power supply, I just left the areas of the case that had copper screen wire installed as they were.  I do not know if excessive internal temperatures are ever a problem with these sets, but some people seem to have had concerns about it.

For the BC-348-J I bought that had been hacked up quite a bit, with cooling holes cut in the case, I ended up just cutting pieces of AL plate and gluing them over the holes.  To preserve the look of the front panel, I covered the S-meter hole in the front panel from the rear with AL plate and then filled in the depression with auto body putty.
